Be Your Own Competitor
When we look at the people around us, we realize that quite a lot of people are ahead of us in one aspect or another, but most importantly, that we are also ahead of some people in one aspect or the other. As such, sometimes we feel comfortable looking at the people behind us and we feel we can take a quick break or we look at the people ahead of us and we think we do not have the time to relax.
This is not really bad unless you want to keep competing with others. But the most important thing to realize is that we should compete with no one other than ourselves. The context of competing with ourselves is to be better than what we were an hour, a day, or a year ago. Nothing more than that. When we seek to compete only with ourselves, the best indeed does come out of us. But when we compete with others, it is very possible that we aim too little that we reach it.
And when we do, we feel like we have arrived. Instead, you are simply aiming too low. You have not yet realized what the best in you can be. But when you compete against your standard’s of yesterday, you become a better version of yourself. In competing with yourself, the only sure thing that happens is that it becomes a habit. And when it becomes a habit, you are able to sufficiently push yourself. The power and motivation to continue comes from within. It does not come from seeking to compete with others.
So it is important that we seek to become better versions of ourselves, but the standard should never be about how much we did compare to others, it should be about how well we did against what we are capable of doing. However, also be careful to not drag the bar too low when you compete with yourself. Understand what your vision is, and be the best possible of it. Then seek plans that make you that version of yourself.
So start today, look inwards, and seek to find that vision and goal you want to achieve. Then follow it and let that be your standard. Making people your standard depends on factors from outside and in becoming the best version of yourself, you would need to have a lot of energy coming from within. Only then can you begin to become that person you truly are supposed to become.
The time to start is NOW. Start today and be the best that you can ever be. Compete only with yourself. The world is your stage. GO.
Thanks and God Bless.
