Declutter Everyday
We come across so many things everyday and as human nature, we want to interact with these things. But sometimes, they become too much to handle and we can only do one thing, declutter.
At first, everything seems very important and useful and you sometimes wonder if you can ever live without any of these things. But as you begin to try to remove some of the items, the pain is not as much as you thought.
One of the very important things people need to find a way to reduce its excesses is the mobile phone. Reaching out to check notifications on our mobile phones is becoming an unconscious activity which drains away a lot of our time, something we can clearly sometimes do without.
To determine if you cannot do without your phone, for an hour, keep your phone away. No access to the phone whatsoever. Some people really need their phones and cannot do without it, it is their profession. You have customer care agents and some other professions who have to be with their phones all the time. With the exception of this category, it would make a lot of sense to do without your phone for sometime.
The Pareto principle says to focus on the part that brings the most outcome and cut back on anything that does not contribute to the overall goal or picture. If checking your phone and your notifications contribute to your major goal in life, go for it, otherwise, kindly cut back on the phone usage and focus more on your real life.
Yes, we might have the feeling of missing out. What if an emergency happens and I need to be contacted? How would I be contacted? All these are just fears of missing out and you might not really miss out. Because if it is so important, you would be contacted one way or the other, unless you do not have very great allies who watch out for you.
So it matters that we begin to look inwards into some of the things that take too much of our time but give us very little in return. Having your phone with you during relaxation or other times when you need a break might be very good, but when you need to work, keep your phone away and any other thing that might keep you away from achieving what you want.
We are bombarded everyday with too many information. The only way to win this battle is to declutter as much as we can and to declutter everyday. It matters that we declutter because in the end, it is our time that is been taken away. And this is one of the most important resource we have and we need to use it well.
Do take care of yourself and try decluttering today. It matters that you do. Thanks and God Bless.
