Would It Matter Ten Years From Now?
In the present, we want to have all that we want. But sometimes, some of the things we want might look good for the present but would never have a good impact on our future. Due to this, I sometimes ask myself this question before embarking on any activity, “Would It Matter Ten Years from now?”. And I would like to ask you the same question today.
If that idea you have been thinking of developing never comes into life, what would happen 10 years from now? Would you look back at your life and wish you did move the idea into execution or would you be happy you never did? The answer is yours to answer. For that partner you always wanted to ask for their hands in marriage, would you feel comfortable 10 years from now that you never asked them? Whatever it is you are doing, thinking of doing or hoping to do one day, always ask yourself the question of how important the activity is 10 years from now.
So many atimes, we are too focused on what the present looks like that we never take any action. Realize that you would never remain the same person if you take that bold step and move into doing rather than thinking of doing. Realize that on your death bed, it would never matter. The things you did and you are happy about are the things you would most likely remember and those things you wish you did that you never had time for. Those are all that you would remember.
So decide, which one do you want to have the most? Regrets or good memories. The choice is yours. Start making the wise ones today. Sometimes we focus too much on the present that the future we hope for slips away and sometimes we also focus too much on the future that we never really enjoy what we have. So be careful in using this question. It is important to ask the really important questions that put your entire life in perspective, but you also need to have time to enjoy the present.
So while thinking about the future, think about the present so that you become a person with a balanced life. You neither think too much of the future that you forget what you currently have and you do not think too much of the present that it takes the future away from you. So realize the need to balance and keep improving everyday.
Life is both short and long. It is your perspective that determines which one you fall under. So enjoy life to its best by understanding that the future is important in our thoughts and we should ensure that the present does not run by while we think of the future. Take care of both the present and the future. Have a blessed day.
