Your Principles Matter More Than Your Experiences

What are your principles? Have you ever being asked this question? What was your response? Now take a minute and really consider what you take as your principles. It is important that we have what we consider as principles, but it is also important to consider why we choose what we choose as our principles.

Our principles, in my opinion, are what makes our foundation. Without them, we are indistinguishable from others. And we need to be distinguishable. But how do we choose principles that truly matter? I think principles should be based on something higher than us. Divine principles from God, in my opinion, are the form of principles we need to choose.

Most people choose principles based on what happens to them. I believe it is important to reevaluate our principles based on the things that happen, but the experiences around us should never only be the root of our principles. When those experiences enrich your principles, go ahead and keep them. But if you have experiences that make you deviate from the moral principles you believe in, then those experiences need to go.

Some people have experienced very bad relationships with their partners and then use that as a basis to form their new principle that every partner they would have would be the same way. I think that is not correct. But it is important to use the experience you have to plan how to move forward, but those experiences should never decide how you should live.

Realize that if you build your tomorrow based on the experiences of yesterday, it is more like you are still living in the past. You have to be willing to let the past go and be focused on what the future provides. So many people have been hurt while trying to be good, and decide that those bad experiences would determine the future. NO.

Know that it is important to have principles that make you see the beauties in life and not principles that makes you live life with fear, anger and hatred. No matter what your experiences have been, never push away your principles because of experiences. Experiences can help sharpen our principles, but they should never take away our principles.

Understand that the beauties of life usually lies in being vulnerable about the future. Understanding that we might never be able to figure out what would happen next. So many people push away the next wonderful experience because of their previous encounter and kind of loose whatever beautiful thing awaits in the future.

Get me right, experiences are important, but only when they make you a better version of yourself. Do not use experience as an excuse to be bad or to have a bad mindset. If someone did something bad to you, that does not mean everyone would. Give people a chance and seek to always find the better side. We usually find what we seek. Thanks and God bless.
